What is Rooibos?

Rooibos is produced from the Aspalathus linearis shrub, also known as “red bush.”
The plant is native to the Cederberg Mountains of South Africa. Once plucked and collected, the leaves are processed into a tisane.
After harvest, the cut branches undergo an oxidation process similar to the processing involved in the creation of black tea; This technique brings out the rich, warm red colouring of the harvest, both in the branches and in the steep, and enhances the flavour into a full-bodied and naturally sweet cup.
Many people now use it as a base for tea lattés; the natural sweetness of rooibos and the colouring of the steep hold up against milk almost as well as a black tea. This makes it an excellent caffeine-free alternative for those who still want a touch of milk (or milk alternative) and honey in their cup.
