TISANE OF THE MONTH :: Nettle Chai
In 2012, we were invited to contribute to the James Barber Chef’s Table Fundraiser. The theme of the event that year was "Honey". Naturally, we looked to our garden friends for inspiration. Bees are hard-working, friendly, finely dressed in their yellow pollen breeches, and have a bit of a sting (when necessary). This led to the creation of a scrumptious infusion with each of these qualities in mind; the grounding and earthy leaf of Stinging Nettle, brisk and bright Lemon Peel and zesty yet soothing Lemon Verbena combine with a gentle tally of warming masala spices: Cinnamon, Cardamom, Ginger Root. Much like the tail-end of a bee, the cup has a gentle 'piquant' peppery finish.
The result is a lively and delicately spiced herbal chai that pairs beautifully with honey, as intended. Plus, contains the incredible health benefits of all the ingredients working together in harmony (much like the bees).
A tonic perfect for this season as we are just about ready to welcome back the honeybees (and combat allergies)!
Nettle Chai contains the greatest ratio of nettles of all of our blends. Nettles are known for a wide array of health benefits. They offer an easily absorbed source of minerals and vitamins. Nettle are especially helpful in the Spring time as a gentle liver support. Nettle also make a great ally for decreasing allergies: when taken approximately a month ahead of your typical allergy season they can greatly reduce the intensity of seasonal allergies.
Working in harmony, Nettle Chai offers the benefits of herbs and spices known for anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, anti-allergenic, and anti-oxidative properties.
