05.20.2022 :: Tea Time Travels
International Tea Day is this weekend: May 21st.
It is a common misconception that this day is simply a day to appreciate tea. The grassroots origin of International Tea Day grew from tea farmer's and workers organizing to address and call attention to injustices and inequitable impacts in the tea industry.
Tea means many different things to many different people. While there is no "right" way to drink tea, there are rights for humans and nature to consider.
This day invites us to think about rights for the hands plucking tea who are calling for global attention to the harms that can be caused by much of the tea industry.
Because teas are an expression of every aspect of the environment where they are grown, working conditions and the quality of life for tea farmer's impacts the quality of tea in your cup.
What better way to consider the ripple effect of a drop of tea than to sit and connect through cups of tea that honour the lesser heard voices in the tea industry and can help connect us with stories beyond ourselves...
