Description: This classic Japanese tea is world-renowned for combining green tea leaves with lightly toasted grains of brown rice. While adding toasted rice was initially done with Bancha teas (‘last tea,’ a lower grade of green tea) to bulk up the quantity and lower the price for poorer members of society, the distinct warm flavour of genmaicha is now enjoyed across Japan and the world.
Tasting Notes: The grounding, earthy vegetal notes of bancha mix with the toasted sweetness of puffed rice. The result is a gently savoury cup - comforting and refreshing. The cup steeps to a pleasant, clear yellow, and is excellent paired with meals.
Brewing Instructions: 2g per cup. 90ºC water. steep 3 minutes. Re-steep.
