Description: Margit has created unique, hand-built aroma cup sets, which can be integrated into anyone's daily tea ritual, or used for special occasions. It is an excellent way to expand your understanding of tea, and to start exploring thousands of years of history of tea growing and appreciation!
The Aroma or Fragrance Cup is said to have been invented in the 1970's in Taiwan as a way to further integrate appreciation of the aroma of tea into tea drinking, and to bolster the consumption of locally-grown teas. Aroma Cups are now sometimes used as part of Chinese Gongfu or Kung fu Tea Ceremonies - the elegant and thorough preparation, presentation, and consumption of tea (it translates literally to 'Making Tea with Skill').
Though aroma had already been an incredibly important component of tea ceremony and tea drinking for thousands of years, the invention of the aroma cup was made to fit seamlessly alongside the Gongfu ceremonial teacup set as another integral tool to pushing tea appreciation further. Aroma or Fragrance Cups are now often used by tea growers, tea connoisseurs and tea importers to help taste and grade teas and aid in writing tasting notes and descriptors, especially for high-quality Oolong and Green teas.
Uses: The tea is poured into the aroma cup first, then poured into the wider drinking cup. Due to the fragrance cup's tall size and small lip, it holds the aroma of the tea without exposing the fragrance to too much air, allowing the drinker to smell the tea’s natural perfume between sips. The aroma will continue to develop and change during the duration of tea drinking, and between the tea’s various steeps, so be sure to keep sniffing!
